The Winter B 2011 Teammate of the Module Award Goes To...... Mr. Matthew Thisse!

Starting in Winter A 2011, the Roseville management team decided to nominate and vote on the “Teammate of the Module.”  This award was, and will continue to be given to the Roseville teammate who has contributed above and beyond his or her job requirements and demonstrated overwhelming dedication to the mission of the school. (A special note of congratulations to Mrs. Mary Lee for being our first award winner as the Winter A 2011 Teammate of the Module.)

Nominated by Ms. Allison Ouellette, and seconded by the entire management team, I would like to announce that our Academic Dean, Mr. Matthew Thisse has been selected as the Winter B 2011 Teammate of the Module!  While the team wrestled with the notion of nominating a member of the management team for this award, especially since this is only the second module we have done this, the facts were simply stacked in his favor.

Matthew Thisse has been with Dorsey Schools since the fall of 2009 when he started working at the Southgate campus as an adjunct instructor.  Sacrificing his established career in non-profit management to pursue a passion for education, Mr. Thisse took a chance and found himself in the front of a classroom teaching several sections of Interpersonal Skills.  From his first module on campus, it was clear that he was going to make an impact on Dorsey Schools and its students.  Receiving the coveted, student-nominated “Instructor of the Module” award in his first module, he set the bar high for the educational standards on the Southgate team.  Later, he was promoted to the position of lead instructor, championing several initiatives, including various, flawless audits, the co-development of the 2010 Southgate Retention Plan, and continued student satisfaction.  Clearly, when the academic dean position became available at the Roseville campus, he was an obvious candidate.

During the Winter B module (and really, since he has been here in Roseville), Mr. Thisse has accomplished many things:

  • In the absence of Sharon Eifert, Associate Director of Student Services, since late December, he took on all aspects of student services, making daily telephone calls to students and helping students resolve problems in order to stay on the path to graduation.
  • In the absence of Chelsea Richardson, Registrar, since early October, he took on all aspects of grade posting, attendance auditing, and new class scheduling.
  • He transitioned seamlessly into the role of Academic Dean – while still aiding in the training of his replacement at Dorsey’s Southgate campus.
  • In only two modules, Mr. Thisse, with the support of his faculty team, has led the educational outcomes of the Roseville team, accomplishing the highest pass rates in Roseville history on the standardized final exams: 84.4%!
  • In only two modules, the Roseville campus saw a drastic improvement in overall GPA and attendance.
  • During the month of March, Roseville experienced the first of our three annual internal compliance audits – with a perfect score and zero findings (also, kudos to Chef Piazza who was equally as responsible for this outcome).
  • In an effort to increase student retention and get to know the student body, Mr. Thisse put himself on the schedule to teach a Business Communications class during the Spring A 2011 module.  I am certain that his students are grateful for his passion for teaching and extra involvement on campus.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. Thisse for his outstanding performance here in Roseville – and so many times before.  We couldn’t think of a more deserving person for this award, although several other fantastic nominations were made.  With so many people making such outstanding contributions to the continued success of the Roseville campus, I suspect that this award will continue to be a difficult decision for the entire team.  Each of your talents and contributions are appreciated beyond explanation.  Continue doing what you’re doing!

Keep shining, Roseville!

Regards,

Mark Young
