Weekly News & Motivation From Student Services!

Jessmine's Crazy Hat!
The Summer ‘B’ Blow Out Module continues!  Monday was ‘Crazy Hat’ day and I know there were some very crazy hats around campus. I hope you're enjoying the fun events each week and the free jeans days as well.

Next Tuesday, September 6th it’s Sports Day – Wear your Team’s Colors in shirts, jerseys, hats and jeans. With the Tigers doing so well and the Lions looking good so far, we should have some Blue/Orange and Silver/Blue all around campus!

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone that participated in our Annual picnic last week.  As you may have heard, we will be able to send an amazing $3100 to Turning Point and this will be a tremendous help to a very deserving organization.  I hope you had fun with the games, food, and raffles.  This event just proves that you really can “pay it forward” and have a good time.

Here’s a great quote for the week as we’re in week 3 of the module and effort becomes more important:

“No one succeeds without effort. Those who succeed owe their success to their perseverance.” -Romana Maharski

Success is there for you if you are willing to work hard and never give up the hope that you can have the dream you are pursuing.  Stay focused, work hard, follow the school policies and you will see your future become what you want it to be.

Dorsey School's Roseville Picnic Fundraiser For Turning Point Breaks Record!

FUNDRAISING AFTER GLOW
Many thanks to many people on yesterday’s annual picnic event!  What an amazing time!  Whether you were at the 11:00 picnic, the 3:30 picnic, or the 6:00 picnic, I think you’ll agree that it was definitely a day filled with many laughs and tons of fun.

Special gratitude to:

·         Ms. Sharon Eifert for her perennially flawless hosting of this event.

·         Ms. Mary Ellen Wojciechowski for her strong leadership and invaluable contributions.

·         Our Hospitality and Tourism students who worked tirelessly all day to contribute to an amazing day.  Their hard work is very much admired and valued.

·         The students, staff, faculty, corporate office staff, and members of our Madison Heights sister campus for their generosity in giving on multiple levels.

·         Our many sponsors and contributors, including The Weave Shop of Southfield, U-Haul Rentals of Roseville, and Western Creative of Redford.

This year is a special year for our annual picnic, as our total fundraising efforts have raised the largest amount of money in Roseville history, exceeding the record of our 2009 picnic of $3,000.

This year’s total money raised: $3,100!!

All of this money will be contributed to Turning Point of Macomb County (www.turningpointmacomb.org), a shelter for abused women and children.  Unfortunately, many of our students have relied on the services offered by Turning Point to seek refuge from hostile environments.  Fortunately, through the work of its many dedicated men and women, Turning Point has been there for our students time and again.  And the best part:  We get to be part of that effort with the work we do!!

Thank you to everyone for your generosity, hard work, and dedication to the excellence which was displayed at yesterday’s event.  You are a tremendous group of people, students and staff alike, and it is my distinct honor to be counted among you.
And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for … the winning tickets!!

The winners are:
·         “32 Television:                          532298
·         Detroit Lions Tickets:                 532382

Summer 'B' Blow Out Week 2 - Featuring Dorsey Roseville's Annual Campus Picnic
August 25, 2011

I can’t wait for the fun this Thursday at our annual campus picnic!  I hope you are looking forward to it as well!

In case you haven’t heard about it, our picnic is a GREAT time and also happens to be our major fundraiser for Turning Point.  There’s no charge to attend and Dorsey provides the food, beverages, a DJ and games, including a hula hoop contest, limbo and MORE!

We have a raffle with some exciting prizes!  ALL of the proceeds from the raffle benefit Turning Point. Tickets are 6 for $5.00 or $1.00 each – this is the general raffle and you win immediately. The Big Ticket Raffle is a $5.00 ticket – this year prizes are a 32 inch flat screen T.V., a Blu-Ray DVD, Flip Recorder, $100.00 Gift Card and other great prizes!

Another bonus to our picnic is the dress code for the day.  This is the only day students (and staff) are allowed to “dress down,” and wear shorts, Capri’s, tanks, flip flops (no bathing suits).

Bring a lawn chair, blanket, umbrella, sunscreen and some money for the raffles.  Come prepared to have some fun while “paying it forward” and helping others.

Don’t forget, the Best Tropical/Luau Costume Wins a Prize!  Let’s have some fun and make this picnic the best one EVER!

Are You Ready For Some Fun? Welcome To The Summer Blow-Out Module!

This module will be filled with fun events each week for six weeks. We started with the Free Jeans Day on first day back .The returning students as well as our new starts seemed to appreciate having jeans as the start to a great module.

Thursday August 25th will continue the fun with our annual campus picnic.  As part of our community commitment it is also a fund raising event for Turning Point, a shelter for domestic violence and sexual assault.  There will be food, beverages, games, dancing, contests and raffles.  General raffle tickets will be 6 for $5.00. There are several items that will be up for grabs so cash in those pop bottles.  We have a “Big Ticket” raffle as well and this year we have a 32 inch flat screen television, a Blu-Ray DVD player, Flip Video Recorder and other items as well. These tickets are $5.00 each so save your pocket change and see if you will be a lucky winner.

It is going to be a fun-filled day so bring a lawn chair, your beach umbrella, some sunscreen and pocket change.  Check out the bulletin boards for past picnic photos and info on this years event.

My motivational quote for this week is:
“Ability is what you are capable of doing, Motivation determines what you do, but Attitude determines how well you do it”.  So keep a positive attitude going and I know you will do well!

Weekly News & Motivation From Student Services

Special Thanks To Turning Point

Representatives from Turning Point www.turningpointmacomb.org  visited the Dorsey Roseville Campus on July 26, 27, and 28.  The information given to our students about their mission and available programs such as the 24 hour crisis line and the Nurse Forensics program was very informative. Several students asked about volunteer opportunities to help at either the shelter, Second Hand Rose resale shop or even the courts.  Thank you to Claudine, Charisa, and Carmen for very inspiring presentations that made a tremendous impact on students and staff as well.

It’s week 6 of Summer ‘A’

So as we wind down the Summer ‘A’ module I hope that you have gained confidence in who you are and what you are capable of accomplishing, each module that you complete brings you that much closer to your dreams.  Stay focused this week on successfully completing your final examinations, then step back and give yourself a round of applause.  Mr. Thisse gave some very good tips on how to prepare yourself for testing and I hope you will use them.

The Summer B module will be an exciting one as we have many events planned for each week.  The biggest of course will be our annual school picnic held on campus.  Watch the bulletin boards for more info and pictures of previous picnics.

The school will be open during your break so you can come in to use the computer labs and keep your skills up.  Hours will be Monday through Friday from 9 am until 5 pm.

Have a great Week!
