Admissions Announces Upcoming Open House Event: Super Senior Saturday!

The Admissions team is excited to announce our first annual Super Senior Saturday!

This event will take place on Saturday, May 7th from 11am-1pm.  We invite all graduating High School Seniors and their families to attend and find out why Dorsey is a great place to get on the right track to a promising and successful career!

The Culinary Building (Building C) on campus will be pleasantly active as Seniors and family members tour classrooms getting information about our programs offered, observe current students participating in hands on workshops, speak with Financial Aid about affordable education options, and gain valuable information about the workings of our exceptional Career Services department!

The Admissions team has been to several local college fairs promoting our Super Senior Saturday and anticipates meeting and helping an abundance of seniors looking for an opportunity to get on a great career path.  If you know of any graduating high school students who want to pursue a career that’s in demand, please invite them to our exciting event!

Why Is Certification Important?

This week I want to emphasize to all of our upcoming Roseville Medical and Dental professionals, the importance of certification.  Becoming certified is sometimes forgotten after graduates finish classes, enjoy externships and pickup that diploma that they’ve worked so hard for.  It is important to continue your journey while information is still fresh and take a certification exam.  Your diploma is what qualifies you as a graduate to take a certification exam.

Why is it important to take a national certification exam?

“Certification translates to an advantage in the work place. Many employers now require certification because they know that individuals who are certified are commited to their profession and to quality patient care. Certified individuals also tend to enjoy higher wages and greater promotional opportunities. So get certified today!”
– American Medical Technologist

for Medical Assistant Certification information

Go to http://www.ncctinc.com/
for Patient Care Technician and Medical Billing and Coding Certification information

Go to http://www.ptcb.org/ for Pharmacy Technician Certification Information

Make sure to apply to take your certification exam no less than 9 weeks before the scheduled exam date on your 5th week of externship.  Give yourself an extra edge in the job search process.

I have scheduled 2 exam review dates prior to each certification date to help you refresh your knowledge and prepare for your exam.

Upcoming exam dates:
May 6th at 12:45pm, June 17th, July 29th

Review dates:
April 28th at 1:30pm and May 5th at 1:30pm

We have also put together a custom online review site (snapshot above) where you can test your knowledge and practice for your exam.  This will be made available to everyone attending the first review session. If you are unable to make the review session or want to start using this resource earlier, send me an e-mail requesting access. Please include your name, e-mail, telephone number and program.

If you sign up for an exam and are not able to attend for any reason, make sure to notify me at least 2 weeks before the scheduled exam date so that you will not be charged a fee.

I wish you good luck and great success!

Weekly News and Motivation From Student Services

WELCOME BACK to the last week of April and week four of the Spring A module!  I do hope that the few days you had off gave you some time to spend with friends and family.

Hopefully it also gave you an opportunity to let everyone know about your journey here at the Dorsey Roseville campus.  When you let other people in your life know about your goals and dreams it allows them to not only support you and your decisions, but let’s them share in your journey as well. This was an important decision in your life!  If you haven't yet, why not spend a few moments letting friends and family know about your dreams, your goals and the career choice you have made?

Dorsey schools takes pride in supporting our students in developing their talents as well as self-esteem, confidence and professionalism.  As part of the student support system, Student Services maintains an open door policy.  If you feel you need someone to talk to or some help in thinking about solutions to problems either in school or outside of school please stop by.  Stop by even if there are no problems just to say hello and grab a piece of candy.  My office is in building C, just ask at the front desk for Mrs. Eifert.

Don’t forget Mother’s Day is Sunday May 8, 2011!  I know I cherish those handmade gifts and letters given to me over the years.  Here are some ideas that are not costly, but can be priceless when given with love.

1.  Type out the things you treasure, cherish or feel have been positive influences from or about your Mother, Grandmother or the woman who impacted your life.  Print them out on colored paper, cut in strips place in a jar and label it the Memory Jar.  Give instructions that she pull a “positive” from the jar on the days she misses you or just needs a boost.

2.  Write an “essay” or poem to tell her why you are proud to be her son/daughter.  Print it on pretty paper, buy a frame at the dollar store and frame it for her.

3.  If you feel “crafty” and your special Mom loves flip flops, then purchase some hot colors, a $2.00 bag of rhinestones from the craft store and spend a couple hours together making some “flashy” matching flip flops.

4.  Staying in school, completing your program, getting the career you want is also a great gift to give to your Mom as well as your entire family.

5.  Last but not least give the gift of yourself, your time and attention is sometimes the best gift of all!

To close this week's news from Student Services I’d like to share a quote:

“There is a choice you have to make in everything you do.  So keep in mind that in the end the choices you make, make you.”

Have a great week!
