Wow, it’s already week three of the Spring A module! Time sure does fly. It’s exciting to see our students as externs out in the field, fine tuning their skills and showing off for their “six-week interview” (or 12-week for Culinary students) at their externship sites.
I have already heard from several doctor’s offices who are thrilled with their externs from Dorsey and are already considering them for employment. In fact, we are receiving calls from more and more offices looking for externs, as they have heard they can “try before they buy”. The offices are able to work with a student for 180 hours, train them and get to see if they may be a good fit for employment, while the extern gains valuable hands-on experience in the field.
What has surprised me is that a couple of our sites said they would take externs, but were not interested in hiring at this time. However, now after ONLY two weeks they are changing their minds and are seriously considering adding Dorsey graduates to their team. Office managers are excited to have Dorsey’s well-prepared externs jump right in and provide an extra set of needed hands. They are impressed with the positive attitudes and professionalism our students are bringing to the site.
As a student attending Dorsey, do you have questions about your upcoming externship? Stop by and see myself, Carrol Parris or Jim Johnson in Building C. Just ask for us at the front reception desk. It’s never too early to start preparing for the next step in your journey to a new and wonderful career. Hope to see you soon!
