Weekly News And Motivation From Student Services

I’d like to say Congratulations to our Spring B 2011 Graduates and Externs!   Goal Obtained!!!!

When you started your program a year ago I’m sure you thought this day was so far away, asking, “ how were you going to do it?”, and now it’s here.

I know for each of you it has been a year of challenges as well as accomplishments.  You have shown the desire to make a major change in your life and never gave up.  You have remained focused and did not allow fear of change to deter you from your goal.  You recognized the importance of good attendance, good grades, adhering to dress code and following all school policies.  You showed respect for yourself as well as others knowing that you should always treat people as you would like to be treated. You were willing to make the sacrifices that were necessary to reach your goals.

This is a journey that many times needs choices to be made and you have made the right ones continually to get to this point.  You developed your abilities to adapt to change knowing that the biggest change would be when you left Dorsey.  You have spent a year with us, growing and learning not only about your career but also about yourself.  You have developed self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance and discipline.  We have been your family during this year because we have laughed with you, cried with you, been excited for you and now you must leave “home”.

As a graduate you now have the opportunity to move into your new career.  You’ve been working with Career Services on your resume and interviewing techniques. Going on those interviews is the next challenge but I know you are up to the task.

For our externs you now have the opportunity to use your knowledge and skills in a real-world work environment.  While at your extern site, remember what you learned about professionalism.  Remember to follow dress code, always be on time, and respect the office or hospital rules. Show them who you are, take all you’ve learned and give it your best.

In closing I will again say Congratulations! and use a quote from
Dr. Seuss’s book “Oh the Places You’ll Go”:

“And will you succeed?
Yes! You will indeed. (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed)
Kid you’ll move mountains.
So… be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or
 Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea
You’re off to Great Places!
Today is Your Day! Your Mountain is waiting.
So… get on your way!"
