Weekly News and Motivation From Student Services

We all have our own views of success.  This week from Student Services I’d like to ask you to define what success means to you.  One of the dictionary definitions of success is “the achievement of something desired, planned or attempted”.

From some perspectives I’d say you have all reached a level of success, regarding that definition.  You had the desire to change, you are attempting to change, and you have a plan to change - - your education at Dorsey.  For each of you I am sure this journey will have different career destinations. However, to achieve the best successful outcome from this journey you need to have an idea of what success really means to you.  Is it the gaining of recognition, prosperity, security, possessions?  Because we all have different views on success we each have to decide what it is and how hard we are willing to reach the goals that will allow our success.

Success can be the accomplishment of even a short term goal at work or school. It can range from getting an A or B on a test or as large as the dream of being the CEO of a major company. From little to large success can come in many ways and in any size. Success can be reached by working hard at something, the happiness that comes from the effort to reach a goal. It also means finishing something that you started and have been working hard to complete.  To that end I believe each of you has the desire to be successful while in school. We will give you all the tools you will need to reach that goal not only here at Dorsey but many of these tools can be used in your personal and future work life.

I believe that success means doing what you have always wanted to do and being where you have always wanted to be. Basically being happy with what you are doing with your life.  So this week while thinking about what success means to you I want to give you this quote to keep in mind.

“Success does not come the way you think it does, it comes from the way you think”.  So think positive thoughts, set your goals both shot term and long term, and I promise you success will be there for you. Hard work will always pay off.
