The Secret To Finding A Position After You Graduate

Graduates always ask the same question. What’s the best way to find a job – fast?

Here’s the secret:  Those graduates who work closely with their Career Services Coordinator, are realistic in their job search and are willing to be flexible about hours and salary, are typically the graduates who find jobs the fastest.

Your Career Services Coordinator is your best resource for finding job leads.  That means you need to speak with her on a regular basis – at least once or twice a week.  Let her know where you’re applying and when you have interviews, and she’ll know you’re serious about your job search and will be sure to submit your resume as a “top candidate” for job leads.

While getting the highest possible salary is always desirable, graduates who understand that even though the economy is improving, it’s still an “employer’s market”.  That means employers are getting hundreds, sometimes thousands, of resumes for each job. When there’s more employees than jobs, employers find that they can offer a lower salary than they may have a few years ago.

However, don't be discouraged! We remind graduates to "get their foot in the door" and show the employer their worth. Future raises and promotions are entirely up to you - when you demonstrate to your employer your commitment and passion for your chosen career.

Also, be flexible about the shifts.  Most people who are on the day shift at hospitals and health care facilities started on the afternoon or night shift.  Once you’re there a while and have seniority, you can always request a different shift.

Across all of Dorsey Schools’ campuses, we are placing approximately five to six graduates a day!  One day soon, you will be one of those graduates!  We look forward to working with you in Career Services to help prepare you to move into your new career.
