Preparing For Externship And Beyond: Dress For Success, For Less!

First Impressions DO count, but looking professional does not necessarily mean expensive. Of course there is some expense to buying professional interview attire, but you can learn some easy lessons when shopping that can save you a considerable amount of money while still looking good.

Here are some ideas:

Ask for Professional Attire for Birthdays, Holidays, Graduation, etc...
Let family and friends know that if they want to buy you a present, they can help chip in to your “interview suit fund". If you can’t keep a money fund without breaking into it, ask them to get you a gift card to a department store or have them go shopping with you, and you can pick out an item with them.

Utilize the Dress for Success Closet
Our Dorsey Career Development Department offers gently used clothing for all interviews (mock, externship, and job) free of charge to any Dorsey student. Ask your externship coordinator for more information.

Attend the Dress for Less Workshop
Each quarter our Career Development Department hosts a Dress for Less workshop at a local thrift store. A Dorsey representative becomes your very own style consultant!  And, we have secured an additional discount for all Dorsey students who attend. Stop by the Career Service office to find out when the next workshop is scheduled.

Remember, professional dress is not just about clothes, but an overall professional appearance. The key is to look polished and professional.
