As we settle into week 2 of the Summer ‘A’ module, if you haven’t already, now is a good time to review your syllabi (again), make a plan and get focused. Here’s 6 tips to make your Summer ‘A’ module a successful one:
1. Put exams, quizzes, and assignment due dates in your planner or on your calendar. This will keep you organized. Be sure to review this daily.
2. Schedule yourself study time everyday outside of school, time to stay after school, or come early to work on assignments and homework. Make your family and friends aware that this is your time to be spending on school and you will be focused on your tasks during this time frame without interruptions and they should not disturb you. Block off this time in your calendar as well.
3. Get together with classmates and form a study group. Group collaboration is a great way to learn, retain and reinforce information. One of your classmates may give you insight or explain something in a different way for you to understand a concept or procedure. You may also be the one to help someone else, which will reinforce your own skills.
4. If you have obstacles that are preventing you from coming to class everyday, work on solutions and find alternatives that will keep you on the right track. We’ve seen a lot of obstacles over the years, so make sure you use US as a resource to help you problem solve. Talk to student services, your instructors, the academic dean, career services, admissions, whoever you feel the most comfortable with. We’re here to serve you to help you be successful.
5. Write down your top 3 goals that you want to achieve and put them somewhere you will see them. Read them everyday. You will achieve and become whatever it is that you think about and focus your efforts on the most.
6. Keep a positive attitude! If all you think about is how much you don’t like certain things or complain all the time, you will constantly have a negative attitude and reaching your goals is unlikely. If you are optimistic and have positive thoughts of success and achievement, you are more likely to reach your goals and probably have more opportunities as a result. Generally, employers would rather hire someone who is positive than negative.
If you follow these tips, you should be well on your way to a successful module and solidify habits to make future modules equally as successful. Good luck!
