The Dental Assistant Program faculty and students helped host the Community Day Event on Saturday November 5, 2011. Dr. Christopher Dyki was the Dentist that helped our event by supervising and performing the oral evaluations. Overall 17 guests from the community were able to be seen in the dental clinic. One child had 11 sealants placed, which would have normally cost $275 in a dental office, but was provided at no charge at the Community Health and Dental Awareness Event. The sealants were placed by registered dental hygienists that also donated their time to the event.
The dental students had a chance to assist the hygienists and doctor in the dental lab, gaining extra hands-on experience. Other dental students helped Dorsey guests by assisting with the paperwork and forms that were needed to participate in the event and answering any questions the guest or patients may have had about the dental procedure. Dorsey Dental students emanated professionalism and showcased their learned skills. The participants of the event will all receive a certificate of participation.
Those who participated did an excellent job. I am very proud to have such a wonderful group of students that helped to give back to the community!
