Dorsey Students Making a Difference During The Holidays!

Everyday in Detroit, Matrix is touching hearts and changing lives – fighting poverty with 26 locations and programs designed to support, educate and empower families, children, men and woman. Their Mission? To break the generational cycle of poverty gripping the city of Detroit.

Matrix has been committed to the city of Detroit for more than 104 years with a never ending passion… and continuing their march – working with every woman, man, and child that enters their doors, ensuring they have food, clothing, shelter, an education, a job, and hope for tomorrow.

Dorsey Roseville’s Hospitality students along with Chef Usher and her entire class, volunteered their “time” and “talents” to the Matrix Human Services Center Annual, “A Night of Thanksgiving” dinner event on November 16th and 17th.  Matrix started serving families in need, a large Thanksgiving dinner last year, feeding around 400-500 people.  This, now annual event, was outstanding again this year with another great turn-out.

The Hospitality students used their talents in event set-up and decorating as well as serving for the event, while the Culinary students cooked all the side items for dinner in large volume.  We are happy to be a part of such a giving event!

Doreen E. Maxwell, Client Support Coordinator at Matrix Human Services had this to say about Dorsey's participation:
"Angela Zini and Chef Usher, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the two of you and your students for helping make the Matrix Center's 2nd annual "A Night of Thanksgiving" a complete success.  The Dorsey support was absolutely amazing, and the prepared food got nothing but rave reviews.  Again.  Thank You Very Much."

St. Patrick Senior Center has been improving the quality of life for seniors in Detroit for over 30 years. They are dedicated to enabling seniors to live rich and independent lives by providing a wide range of services, activities, and classes, as well as the support of a caring community.

For the 3rd straight year, Dorsey staff and students participated at the annual “Doo-Wop” Palooza, a benefit for the St. Patrick Senior Center, held this year on Friday, November 18th.  This event featured musical entertainment, by The Street Corner Band, with music from the 50’s through the 70’s and was accompanied by a “strolling dinner”.

Special thanks to the following students who volunteered: Kim M., Dartagnan B., Anita L., Gloria I., Malenia J., Shannon T., and Anel C.
