9 Daily Things You Can Do To Help You Achieve Success In Your Classes!

If you talk to successful Dorsey graduates, they will all have quite a few things in common.  The main thing they have in common is a plan.

Having a daily plan, is planning for success.  You can start your success plan by using these 9 daily things as a foundation:

1.    Get enough sleep.  Getting 8 hours of sleep is a great way to be attentive in class.  Being well rested will also help you feel better, have a positive attitude and retain more information.

2.    Eat breakfast.  Trying to learn new information on an empty stomach is a bad idea.  If you eat something before you come to school, you won’t be focused on how hungry you are.  Your brain needs fuel to learn too.  If your brain isn’t fed properly, your learning can suffer.  Try to eat something with protein in it, which will help you focus.  Yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs and toast, or a protein drink would be great to start your day.

3.    Review your day.  Take a look at your calendar, your syllabus or anything else you use to keep track of dates and times.  Make sure you know what you have coming up for the day, so you can adequately prepare.

4.    Be prepared.  You reviewed your day, now you must prepare for it.  You know you’re going to class, so make sure you have a pen or pencil, maybe some highlighters and of course some paper.  You also know that you’re going to school for career training, so you must be in proper dress code.  If you know you have a test and need a #2 pencil, make sure you have one.  If you know you’ll be hungry after your 1st class, pack a snack.

5.    Take notes.  The more ways you involve your mind, the more material you will retain.  By listening alone you may only retain about 30% of the information that you heard.  If you take notes, you can easily double that.  You don’t have to write down everything, but be sure to make notes of key points that your instructor emphasizes.  If you want A’s, this is an absolute MUST.

6.    Ask questions.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions in class or even before or after class.  Your instructors want you to succeed just as much as you do.  If you don’t ask questions, you may be puzzled for a long time.  By asking questions, you’ll better understand the material and you may even ask something that someone else was wondering about.  This is a win for everyone.

7.    Review your notes.  The point of taking notes is so that you can review them.  You should review your notes or at least the key concepts of your notes on a daily basis.  By doing this, you will increase your retention of the material and commit it to your memory.

8.    Study and do homework.  By studying and doing homework daily, even if it’s only reading, you will be developing your memory and creating positive habits that will surely create a successful work ethic.

9.    Get prepared for tomorrow.  If you need to do laundry, do it.  If you need to pack a snack or a lunch the night before, do it.  If you have a test tomorrow, review your notes one last time before you go to bed.  Take a look at your schedule for the next day and subconsciously you will start working things out in your head and developing a plan.

If you implement these 9 things into your daily schedule, you will be creating highly successful habits that will not only help you now, but in the future.
