Introduction to Culinary Skills “Learn To Cook Like a Pro” is the second course in a series of continuing adult education courses, which will be hosted by the Dorsey culinary academy on Saturday, November 5th 2011 from 9:30am-3:00pm.
This course is geared toward providing professional-level skills to the amateur chef – just in time for the holidays.
ABOUT THE CHEF
Chef Darren Wendel, CEC, has been in the culinary industry for over 20 years. His background consists of a variety of areas in the culinary industry, ranging from hotels, hospitals, the airline industry, and most recently, education. Chef Darren holds an associate’s degree in culinary arts and is also a Certified Executive Chef with the American Culinary Federation.
Chef Darren began with Dorsey in 2011, teaching at the Roseville campus, and currently is an instructor at the Waterford/Pontiac campus where he is able to share his excitement and enthusiasm for the food industry with students on a daily basis.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Specific topics include:
· Kitchen safety and proper handling of knives
· Learn to properly mince, chop, dice, grate and zest
· Learn to sear, simmer, braise, roast and blanch
· Demonstrate fundamental cooking skills
· Assess final outcomes of various dishes
