Dorsey Gives To The Community During The Holidays

This is the most wonderful time of the year precisely because it reveals the very best of who we are.

Pictured here are Sheryl Madden and
Rodney Van Essen helping with the sorting.
Dorsey students, faculty and staff collected over 18 bags (55gallon size) of much needed warm winter clothing including coats, gloves, mittens, scarves, hats and other items that were donated to the Salvation Army over a period of 3 weeks, filling up the collection boxes 3 times!  Every item was appreciated and will help to keep men, women and children warm this winter as we see temperatures drop.

Also magic elves are at work again to help out with the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” campaign. Boxes have been placed in both buildings for new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages. The United States Marines asked Dorsey to support their cause this year, as they are in need of toys to meet the demand of making many children happy this holiday season. The donations will be accepted through December 16th.

On Tuesday December 21, 2011 Dorsey Students, Faculty and Staff will again be reaching out to help in our community by preparing Dinner for the homeless shelter at the Cathedral of St.Paul’s Anglican Episcopal Church in Detroit which is co-sponsored by Detroit Health Care for the Homeless /Advantage Health. Our Culinary Students and their teaching Chefs have the honor of preparing the Holiday meal and will also be assisting with the set up and clean up. Staff and Faculty will take part by serving and decorating for the event.  Cold weather items for the homeless will also be donated by Dorsey.

Thank you to everyone who made all of these events and donations happen -
Giving back in any way in your own community can make the real meaning of the Holidays shine in everyone’s hearts.
